GENERAL PHYSICS TERMS 1.Hydraulic: Operated by fluid or employing water or other liquids in motion. Latin descended from Greek-water organ->water pipe.  2. Pascal's Principle: Pressure applied to an enclosed fluid is transmitted undiminished in every point of the fluid and to the walls of the containing vessel.  3. Boyle's Law: A law that relates pressure, temperature, and volume when temperature remains the same.  Force = Pressure x Area  4. Charles' Law: A law that relates pressure, temperature, and volume of a gas as a function of temperature.  (Pressure x Volume ) / Temperature = (Pressure x Volume ) / Temperature  5. Bernoulli's Equation: A mathematical expression of the principle that the energy content of a flowing fluid is constant. The Pressure and Velocity of the fluid in a pipe are inversely proportional when there is a change in pipe size.  6. Newton's First Law:  An object at rest will remain at rest and an object in motion will remain in motion with a constant velocity unless it experiences a net external force.  7. Newton's Third Law: For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.  8. Work:  Thee transference of energy equal to the product of the component of a force that acts in the direction of the motion of the point of application of the force and the distance through which it travels. 9. Energy:  Energy can never be created or destroyed. Energy may be transformed from one form to another, but the total energy of an isolated system is always constant. Energy comes in various forms, including mechanical energy, chemical energy, electrical energy, heat (thermal) energy, nuclear energy.  10. Kinetic Energy:    A function of the mass flow rate and the velocity of a flowing stream in a fluid system 11. Potential Energy:A fluid system has two components. (1) Potential energy due to elevation. (2) Potential energy due to pressure.  12. Mechanical Energy:The sum of kinetic and potential energy by the use of machinery (pumps).  13. Electrical Energy:The sum of kinetic and potential energy by the use of electricity (positive/negative) forces.

14. Thermal Energy:  Heat, energy transfer that take place as a consequence of temperature difference (friction due to mechanical energy).
