ImageSomeone finally talked you into becoming a substitute teacher. How hard can it be? They are just children, right? You have a few of those at home or you know someone who does. Most of the time the little buggers aren't that bad and the school day is not that long. Right? The first thing to establish with each new class you teach is the fact that you are not their new best friend. Everyone has dreams of being the most liked teacher on campus. You have a choice. You can be every one's friend in a chaotic classroom or you can be the respected teacher in control. Always treat each child as if he or she were your own. You cannot be a best friend to your child and be an effective parent and the same holds true for teachers. There will be some students more likable than others and some you can relate to better. The important thing is to treat each child the same.
