It is a simple goal, easily accomplished by trimming a few grams of fat from your diet. Watching what you put into your mouth and making conscious choices. Reading labels will help you follow a plan to cut back on fat as well.

1. Take the focus off meat portions and try stir-fry. Keep the  meat dish lean with little or no oil.

2. Marinate cuts of meat with citrus juice, vinegar, or other acidic liquids to help tenderize them before cooking them. Season to Flavor.

3. Use turkey breast or lean ham in place of lunch meats like bologna, salami or pastrami.

4. Use meat and cheese as side dishes, let vegetables and grains fill out the plate as your main dish.

5. Broil meats used in stews rather than browning them in oil. No need to add more fat than they already have.

6. Bake, stew, or poach peaches with cinnamon, cloves and honey for a lean dessert.

7. Substitute evaporated skim milk in recipes that call for heavy cream.

8. Grab gingersnaps, vanilla wafers, graham crackers, fig newtons or low-fat fruit bars for a light nutritious snack.

9. Try angel food cake with fresh strawberries.be careful of your portion size.

10. Make pudding with skim milk.

11. Cut back on buttering your vegetables. Mix one part lemon juice, one part butter.

12. Try a baked potato with salsa, chili, or low-fat cottage cheese. Or mix with vegetables and low fat cheese.

13. Use nonfat powered milk to lighten coffee instead of creamer.

14. Use lite syrup on pancakes instead of butter.   Two tablespoons of butter equals 200 calories. That adds up if you have several pancakes.

15.  Mix equal amounts  of nonfat plain yogurt with mayonnaise to make a creamy lower fat dressing for tuna or chicken salad. It makes a great sandwich.

16. Order pizza with more vegetables like onion, broccoli, mushrooms, green peppers and less cheese. Go light on meat items, choose ham or Canadian bacon.

17. Snack on bread-sticks instead of buttery rolls.

18.  Pick a piece of fresh fruit over something sweet like cake or candy.

19.  Use alcohol in moderation. A 12 ounce beer can have up to 200 calories or more.

20. Always choose a smaller portion over a large portion. Eat slow and let your food digest. Rushing through your meal will make you want to eat more.
