Basic Skin Care Tips

Would you attempt to paint a masterpiece on an oily, dirty piece of canvas? Of course not. But if your skin isn't properly cleaned, nothing you apply externally can achieve its maximum results, and your makeup will look less than alluring. If not properly cleaned over time, your pores will become larger, which makes skin much less attractive and older-looking.

What to clean with? I'm not going to get all picky on this issue. Use a gentle cleanser that suits your personal needs (acne-prone, oily, dry, etc.), and be especially gentle always around the eyes. Clean thoroughly, and finish with a splash of cold water to close the pores. Dry your face by dabbing and blotting, never scrub your face (or hair) with a towel. Never, ever, ever use deodorant soap on your face. I personally recommend glycerin soap or unscented Dove.

It is said that Vitamin C is vital to healthy, young-looking skin, but you don't have to pay the beauty industry for it. Just soak a cotton ball in a bit of lemon juice and use it as an astringent before moisturizing (It will burn a little if you're not used to it). Lemon juice will also seem diminish the size of pores. Voila! you've just saved money and made a step toward increased beauty.

(Added tip: Vitamins C & E are also known anti-aging antioxidants. Be sure you're getting enough internally as well.)
