0n January 26, 2008 Tampa Bay will be having its annual Gasparilla Pirate Fest. This quick guide will help you get prepared for the upcoming event, as well as provide you with a little history behind this yearly celebration. The Gasparilla Pirate Fest has become synonymous with parades, booze, and swashbuckling-clad ladies and gents. It’s also a fun and safe event that is enjoyable for the entire family. Whether this will be your first year attending Gasparilla, or you drank so much last year that you can’t remember it, our Nightlife-Tampa 2008 Guide to Gasparilla will supply you with all you need to know about the festival.

About Gasparilla: The Gasparilla Pirate Fest is an annual event that celebrates the invasion of Tampa by the famous pirate named none other than, Jose "Gasparilla" Gaspar. Little is know about the life of Gasparilla, other than he was a wealthy aristocrat who enjoyed burning and pillaging ships, but we can probably assume he was at least as cool as Jack Sparrow. So, why do celebrate the invasion of our city by pirates? Who cares, it’s an excuse to drink all day and stare at hot ladies in pirate costumes. Yay for America!

Price and Admission: Gasparilla is 100% free for everyone. All you have to do is show up. Nevertheless, tickets for reserved seating are available for those who wish to purchase them. If you would like more information about purchasing reserved tickets, please visit the official Gasparilla website at:  http://gasparillapiratefest.com/ .

Time and Location: The Gasparilla Pirate Fest kicks off with the Invasion at 11:30 AM at the Tampa Convention Center located directly on the waterfront in downtown Tampa. Now, if 11:30 AM. sounds more like the perfect time to go to bed rather than start the day, don’t worry; Gasparilla carries on throughout the day until 11:00 PM.

Food and Drinks:
There are approximately 150 different food and beverage vendors at Gasparilla. Although the city of Tampa would encourage you to be a patron of their licensed vendors, you are permitted to bring your own snacks and non-alcoholic beverages. If you’re more interested in a proper pirate-drink, beer and Captain Morgan Rum is served throughout the event.

Crowd: If big crowds just aren’t your thing, you probably shouldn’t attend Gasparilla. Although there is no precise way to predict the amount of people that will attend Gasparilla, previous Gasparilla festivals indicate you should expect a fairly large mass of individuals.

Parking: You're on your own.
