This is a super easy way to smooth someone’s skin using Photoshop. I know there are many different Photoshop techniques people use to smooth skin, but this one is really one of the quickest, and it’s very effective. We’re going to do this using the Channels tab. If you’re not familiar with the Channels tab, open up Photoshop, and play with it for a few minutes, it’s located next to your Layers tab.

Most skin problems appear on the blue and green channels of a photograph, so we are going to eliminate those channels by producing a red-channel copy of our picture.

Sample Image

Step 1: Go to the Channels tab and select only the red channel. Your photo should now look black and white.

Step 2: Go back to the layers tab and copy your photo by pressing “ctrl+a” to select the photo, and “ctrl+c” to copy it.

Step 3: Go back to the Channels tab and select all of the channels. Your photo should now be in color again.

Step 4: From the Layers tab, unlock your picture so it becomes a layer.

Step 5: Press “ctrl+v” to paste your red-channel copy. It should now appear as a new layer over your original.

Step 6: From the “Layer Blending Mode” dropdown menu, select “luminosity” all the way at the bottom.

Voila! Your subject now has smooth skin. I should warn you that sometimes this process will produce intense results, sometimes too intense. Use the “opacity” slider to adjust the layers to your liking. Congratulations, you just created smooth skin using Photoshop. For more free tutorials, please visit my profile.
