TWA

If you are pressed for time, or have a very short hair a twa may be a great option for you. A twa is a teeny weenie afro. Applying a little oil, or serum, and a light alcohol free gel, such as frizz busters IC gel,  Will give your fro a bit of shine.  Depending on how much shrinkage you have, your shoulder length hair may coil all the way back up to one or two inches.  Wrap your hair with a silk scarf at night and lightly mist it in the morning with a moisturizing spray containing glycerin or use bottled water to refresh your fro.  A complimentary neutral colored headband or scarf is appropriate for the workplace.  Conservative matching earrings and necklace, gloss or lipstick can tie this whole look together.

Two strand twists.

If you can master two strand twists you can achieve several different hair styles. Many of us are familiar with the look of two strand twists. If you hair is freshly washed, apply a light oil or serum, or a rich hair butter to twist your hair with. Simply use the back of a rat tail comb section off horizontally. Then make the twist to your desired thickness. Section that block of hair and twist one section of hair around the other. If your hair is thin, consider twisting with an alcohol free gel for holding power.

Flat two strand twists.

Flat twists are two strand twists done right on the scalp, similar to corn rows. After parting your hair, you take one section and twist it under the other piece of hair, very similar to a regular two strand twist. A very professional style is to flat twist a section of hair, and leave the rest in two strand twists, coils, or braids. Picture, the back of your hair is flat twisted in rows going up, the middle section is twisted into an elegant updo, and the bangs are twisted, coiled, whatever style you like. This style can last three to four weeks if you tie it up every night.

Twist out.

Starting with freshly washed hair, apply an oil or serum. Use a hair butter or alcohol free gel and decide which direction you want your hair to lay. For example If you want your coils to lay away from your face, part your hair vertically and start to flat twist in that direction with your holding product, and setting lotion. Let your hair air dry, or sit under a hooded dryer until your hair is completely dry.  Carefully untwist your hair, and stop touching it. The more you touch it, the more it will frizz. Maintain your twist out by wrapping your hair in a silk or satin scarf.

Learning to twist your hair opens up the doors to numerous hairstyles. Use shrinkage to your advantage, and wear a twa, when you don’t have a lot of time to spend on styling.
