I was in need of a cultivator to tow behind my lawn tractor. The gardening centers had tow behind cultivators, but they were too much money for my liking. Many of the cultivators were hundreds of dollars, and to do what?

I decided to take an old pallet and drill a series of 5/8 inch holes in it. I drilled the holes in a ‘V’ shape. I then inserted about 16 landscaping spikes (about $6 from the home store) in the holes. This made the pallet look like one of those “Indian bed of nails.” To secure the spikes in place, I drilled some scrape pine boards to the back side. These pine boards secured the spikes when dragging this cultivator in the dirt. Secure the pallet to the lawn tractor with strong rope or chains and drag behind to cultivate the garden.

If you desire to cultivate deeper, add some weight t the pallet. The good thing about using a pallet is that it is easy to secure weight like cinder blocks to the pallet.
