Mostly just the mad ramblings of a geeky chick.
Yeah, I'm a geek girl. I play an online game, I can tell you why 7-11s have locks on their doors when they're open 24 hours and I know which mass forwarded emails are true and which ones are just hoaxes. I've never met an urban myth I haven't debunked. I read, I watch the news, I play Trivial Pursuit and I win. I love discussing politics, religion and social issues. I watch Penn and Teller Bull@hit because I think it's fun and entertaining and I love MythBusters for the same reason. I'm more at home in my Doc Martens, my old CBGB's T-shirt and my favorite jeans than I am in a business suit and heels. In fact, I think heels are the creation of Satan or at least a minor minion. Though I will wear them when forced. My friends are mostly guys and I'm happy with that. I have my girly side, but I prefer geeky things and geeky people. I can relate. I may not get every reference to D&D the guys throw my way, but I can hold my own. I know what a D-20 is and I know how to use one. I prefer World of Warcraft because I'm not just rolling dice. After years of hearing the D&D contingent talk about their characters, I'll brag about my Night Elf hunter until the cows come home. I can spout a ton of useless information that only I find interesting almost at the drop of a hat. And I will, if you ask nicely. Music is where I'm the biggest geek. It's my passion in life even though I can't carry a tune to save me and I'm pretty sure the UN would consider my playing an instrument a violation of the human rights of the entire universe. Give me well written lyrics with a smart ass singing them and I'm in heaven. I think I got an extra dose of the smart ass gene that runs in my family. I read the Straight Dope almost daily because Cecil Adams makes me laugh and I like learning new, useless information I can use to bore people to sleep. I'm that one girl that almost everyone knows. The one who has never set foot inside Aeropostale or Starbucks, the one who thinks it's silly to spend $300 on a purse when all it does is swallow my car keys. I'm the one who can't fathom why people watch reality TV when we all have at least one perfectly good window in our houses. I'll take my reality up close and personal thankyouverymuch. I don't care who Britney is dating this week or how many DUIs Paris Hilton racked up on the way to the mall. They aren't my friends or my relatives. They won't be calling me at 4 AM for bail money. Yep, I'm that girl. The one the trendy folks call a freak or whatever else they can find to throw my way. And you know what? I don't care. When you stop caring what people think of you, a weight is lifted from your shoulders. I'm a geek, a walking paradox, that weird girl who doesn't buy into the hype that is American pop culture and I'm happy that way.
