"Mad Money"... At Least the Popcorn Was Good? PDF Print E-mail

Tuesdays are the family movie day since popcorn is only $.50 here in our hometown. Well, that is all I can really say that was good about my movie experience this week. We had the unfortunate event of watching "Mad Money." I didn't expect much, but I thought it would at least be an enjoyable comedy. Mainly we went to "Mad Money," because it was the only movie that all of us could watch (my little sister is not old enough for all the other ratings yet). So, we sat down to watch what would hopefully be, a fun comedy.

We were mistaken. The one thing you can say for the movie is that the plot was interesting. You have three ladies who work at the Federal Reserve which, as you guys know, destroys retired money. They get together in a plot to steal the old retired money so Queen Latifah can have a life for her kids, Diane Keeton can pay off her debt, and Katie Holmes can stop living in a trailer park. In so many words they pull it off. The plot had enough twists and turns to make the movie, at least, slightly interesting. It wasn't enough to hold up the movie and all the other technical elements in the movie were uninspiring.

As far as the characters go… well, Queen Latifah plays her role like any other role she has had. Even in "Chicago" she played a branch of the same character. Diane Keeton played the same role she has been playing since "Annie Hall," (just a little more toned down version). It works for her just because no one acts like she does on screen. The best character in the whole thing was Katie Holmes. She plays the part of a free spirit very well. She even managed to get some laughs from me (along with her boyfriend in it).

There is no real way I can say that it made me feel. That is the problem with it. I think, if anything, that it reminded me that I love money. That is all I even remember thinking during the money. Even the trailers were bad. Oh well, you have to have a bad one every once and awhile (to make the good ones look even better).

In conclusion, I would pay $18 to go see the Hannah Montana Concert before I would pay $8 to see "Mad Money." Take my word for it.
