Warning: Spoilers!!!

Wow, Cloverfield was a huge disappointment. After seeing the theatrical trailer, I was intrigued, but feared that the whole movie might be filmed on a single camcorder. Well, my fear became a reality when I watched Cloverfield yesterday morning. Aside from looking like crap, I also felt the movie was; boring, annoying, and poorly  written/directed.

The acting was pretty awful. A bad actor on a soundstage, behind the lens of a sharp 35mm movie camera can sometimes go unnoticed. However, a bad actor being filmed on a camcorder looks ten times worse. Don’t get me wrong, some of these kids were really talented, but a lot of them weren’t.

I just can’t understand why anyone would make another camcorder flick after Blair Witch. Seriously, what the hell was the director thinking. It’s really a shame, because a lot of the monsters and special effects looked really cool. Although, I can’t say that for certain because it was too hard to see them through the lens of a $500 camera.

Cloverfield was trying really hard to be believable, scary, and realistic. Unfortunately, they did it all wrong. The camcorder is supposed to add realism, but how can it when it’s impossible to believe any person would be filming the events that transpire in this film. If you were being chased by giant spiders and a weird alien the size of Manhattan, would you stop to check the battery on your camcorder???

Don’t see this movie in theatres. It’s definitely not worth it. Wait until it comes out on DVD, rent it, and then decide for yourself.
