An imitation of Shakespeares' syntax, that is, he cuts statements in half such that one main idea takes two lines or more.
The page doth not the sword usurpAnd a knight of himself makeOr his lower rights assertAnd unlawfully steal his lords’ rank.Like when moon with sun doth vieAnd in joint crime natures’ scale defyNature must decree that they share the skyAnd in this way regulate their course. Now moon follows sun in legal progression And they both follow nature’s force. So what rank am I in natures’ processionA fair maid to pursue? Why step I from out my rightful placeA rosy damsel to chase? What nature’s laws, must I break, to love you!Yet does the screaming comet stand stillAnd the lifeless bolder start? Rebellious nature seeming to revealThe mood of my criminal heart.
