It was late. The sound of wind whipping through the tree branches and the waves crashing on the shores of the river were haunting. They did not stop Eager Beaver. Eager Beaver was in a deep sleep. He dreamed of all the finer things in life that he had worked so hard for. His dam was already the biggest on the south fork of the river, and strongest for sure, but he still dreamed for more. There is always room for improvement.
Eager heard a loud crash outside the dam that brought him immediately awake and to his feet. Quickly, he scurried to the surface. To his dismay, there was a mighty crocodile set on a path to demolish all he had worked so hard for. He could hear the creaking of the dam giving way. Nervously he watched, frozen stiff with fear, as his family escaped to the safety of the shore.
Eager began to come to grips with his fear as it was overtaken by frustration and then quickly the frustration overtaken with rage. He could hear the croc moan painfully as he laid his back further into the dam, challenging the beaver's carefully designed infrastructure. The beaver could not fathom the reason for this. He flew into a rage and pounced upon the mighty crocodile. Just then the dam gave way, turning all he had cared for instantly to debris and rubble, floating down the river. The beaver wrestled with the beast, who still cried out in anguish, as his family on the shore began to slip from his view.
Be ever hearing, but never understanding.
Be ever seeing, but never perceiving.
