COMMONSENSE PARENTING by DR PRADEEP KAPOOR MD
(complete book available on www.lulu.com)
Parenting is an art, which relies heavily on the use of common sense in bringing up successful kids. The most important developmental task of childhood is the acquisition of self-confidence, emotional stability and a balanced way of dealing with life’s challenges and frustrations. This book is intended to help these very endeavors of parents. Each of us must know how to deal with children correctly and effectively. All parents want their children to excel and become successful in life. This is only possible if they eliminate weaknesses and reinforce the strengths of their wards. On one hand the book aims to bring new insights, on the other it tries to reconfirm the good practices already present in our society. Let us join hands in ensuring that all children get optimal love, care and guidance at home, at school and in society. Our experience is that well-informed parents, who take an active part in their child’s treatment, can actually help the doctor in providing the best medical care to the child. The younger the child the greater the role of the parents, as a small child cannot communicate his/her problems. The doctor may give fifteen minutes of his precious time for your precious, but it is you who observe the child twenty-four hours a day. The more knowledgeable you are regarding your child’s medical problem and its complexities, the better are your chances of getting the right treatment for your child at the outset. ‘Eyes don’t see what the mind doesn’t know,’ goes the age-old adage. If parents don’t know the danger signs of common illnesses they are unlikely to notice them, and it may be too late by the time they take their child to the doctor. The purpose of this book is to educate parents, so that they can actively participate in their child’s medical care and ensure that nothing is left to chance. The purpose of this book is not to encourage self-medication, but to enable you to make informed choices.
