Hitler's Germany, Robespierre's France, Henry VIII's England ...Is Martin Luther King rolling in his grave?

"I tell you, freedom and human rights in America are doomed," bin Laden said as the U.S. war on terrorism raged in Afghanistan. "The U.S. government will lead the American people in -- and the West in general -- into an unbearable hell and a choking life." - Bin Laden on CNNews.

The above quote comes out of Bin Laden's only interview after 9/11 and what is particularly shocking about this is it appears to be a prophecy on the future of the US. The outside world sees an America that is slowly disintegrating. The idea of an America that gives everyone equal opportunity, freedom ad liberty...an America that strives to be as democratic and outspoken as to be the only 'true' example of freedom, has had to deny minority groups the rights they have upheld for so long.

Not that fingers can really be pointed at this stage: It cannot be easy to decide how to protect your country after an attack like 9/11. The point though that the Patriot Act has taken from minority groups the privileges that America has always purported to award to all people regardless of race and ethnicity. As an outsider it appears that the ''hell'' America is going into is unavoidable now.

The unity that appeared to be the life-blood of the United States may be crumbling. If you need proof, look to the media, the celebrities that represent the public voice. Take a look at the Dixie Chicks, representing freedom of speech stabbed them in the back...

"During a March 10, 2003, concert in London, Maines, a Texan, remarked, “we’re ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas.” Two days later – just a week before Bush launched the Iraq invasion – she added, “I feel the President is ignoring the opinions of many in the U.S. and alienating the rest of the world.”" - Robert Parry, March 16, 2006, Consortiumnews.

Even worse is the question as to whether it is George Bush's responsibility to rid the world of terrorism? Does it not sound strangely similar to Robespierre's idealistic attempt to purge France of corruption? Is it not a similar formula Hitler used to purge the world of Jews, Gypsies and coloureds? And can we use King Henry VIII method of ''if you don't like them get rid of them''?

Again, it isn't easy to make a decision on how to prevent America from being threatened, but where can the decision turn into madness? Have not enough American soldiers died in a war that seems to quickly be resembling the 100 years war of the 1400's? How long can this war go on without a real solution and ... I am loathe to say this, without a real reason? Terror is not war, it is insidious, it preys on the innocent and is too cowardly to declare open war...how do you fight a battle against an enemy you cannot actually see?

The world does not wish to see the end that Bin Laden foresees, but without the unity of old America...could it, might it...
