In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. (Acts 2:17 NIV)
Being filled with God’s Holy Spirit is somewhat like filling our tank at the gas station…only it is more economical. Eph. 5:28 says that we are to be filled with the Spirit. There’s an indication of responsibility on our part in being filled…a choice we need to make.
As God’s people, we are instructed by Jesus in Matt. 22:37 to love the Lord with all our heart, soul and mind…with everything we are. If we, as individuals and as the church, choose to empty the tanks of our heart, soul, and mind of worldly desires…and choose to “fill up” with God’s Holy Spirit, God will take us, the church, to a new level of His Kingdom Power to accomplish His desires in a way we have never experienced before, both individually and as a corporate body. That’s exciting! God desires to work through us.
In John 20:21-22, Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” (God’s desire) And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. (God’s empowerment) We must realize that in our own power, we are powerless to do His will. We can be filled through continual communication with God through worship, prayer and reading His Word. This can be done individually, but there’s a wonderful segment of the filling of the Spirit in a group setting like tonight. I think some major filling is happening right now…Amen!
It starts with us, both individually and as a corporate body…the church. Receive and experience the wind and fire of God’s Holy Spirit Power, and together we will soar.
