Learning how to make money online can be a challenging task since
there is now quite a fair bit of competition. However do not let this
deter you into thinking that you cannot succeed. There are still many
niches that remain untapped and could be exploited if you just did a
little searching and research of your own.
One of the best ways
to make money on the internet is by using the Google AdSense program.
When you place AdSense ads on your site you will get paid for every ad
click a visitor does. Even though the amount you receive per click is
not great it is not hard to see that it can add up really quickly and
remember that you are getting paid without having to sell any products
or services of your own.
The first step to creating income from
AdSense is to create a quality informational site. This is why it is
important to have a passion for the sites you create while at the same
time making sure that there is a market for them too. There is no point
creating a site on a topic that no one is interested in. Also do not
monetize your site solely with AdSense. Consider creating some of your
own products too or use related affiliate products. This will ensure
multiple income streams from your website.
The key to making big
money with AdSense is to optimize the positioning of your ads and the
appearance of them. Placing ads towards the center of the page and
above the fold is always a good idea so make sure to have at least one
ad unit in that location. Also be sure to place one ad unit at the
bottom of the page as this will give visitors a place to go once they
are done reading the content on the page.
In addition it can also
be effective to place ads embedded within your articles in your site.
However be sure that your ads do not squeeze your content too much
otherwise this will turn off visitors and they will simply leave your
site either by hitting the back button or doing another search.
Remember that you want to send quality visitors to the websites in your
AdSense ads because if the advertisers do well then they will bid
higher which will raise the average bid and also potentially raise the
average pay per click.
It may be best to resist the temptation to
create hundreds of sites that have essentially duplicated content.
There is nothing wrong with adding an article every now and then that
you like and wish to syndicate on your site however be sure that your
site also has plenty of unique original content. Make sure that you are
the expert in your niche so do your homework and learn as much as you
can and share that knowledge on your site.
Also having a totally
unique site can help to improve search engine rankings which is
something you should strive for with your site also. Getting a good
search engine ranking is a function of site uniqueness, quality inbound
links and good content. Remember that search engines also use human
reviewers to check out sites for many reasons so make sure your site is
of the best quality you can make it. The AdSense program allows you to
use 3 ad units and 2 link units for each content rich page.
It is
important to not place AdSense on pages that have little or no content.
The more content you have on your pages, the more ads you should place
to maximize click through rates. Also try to blend your ads in with the
general appearance of your site so make the colors similar to the rest
of your site and do as much as you can to not make your ads stand out
too much. Be sure to take advantage of adsense to help you make more
money online.
Does AdSense Make Cents?
Relatively speaking I am
a newbie to the Web World, but in that short time I have read and
learned a lot. So much so that I feel my eyes bulging, my head pounding
and I am in need of some serious sleep after spending so much time
online. The interesting fact for most web users is to make money and be
independently wealthy. There is the lure of abundant and ever flowing
fountain of money hidden in the internet, or so we have been led to
believe.
The fact remains that there is money to be made in every
walk of life; in your small town, city, country and on the net. To
obtain it is another matter all together. Again, brilliant marketing
and well chosen words have misled us into thinking that setting up shop
or website will bring us incredible about of money. Far from it, my
personal belief (and if you are honest with yourself you will admit)
that there is no such thing as FREE or EASY Money. Unfortunately, a lot
of us succumb to those juicy, dubious ads of unlimited wealth and fall
for their words and a few I know have lost a lot. At times I feel that
the ones who have made wealth in schemes and scams are the ones that
have tricked others to parting with theirs, since making money the
ethical way is not easy. I too wish to be wealthy, but I would like to
do it morally, and as the saying goes; "The Old Fashion Way, Earn It".
So
to our main topic; using AdSense in developing a businesses for extra
income. When you start a business your goals should be realistic and
sensible, such that you are not disillusioned by unforeseen setbacks.
AdSense allows one to start a business with minimal investment,
basically nil. So what is your part of the bargain in this partnership
with Google? You have to put up a website, give Google an area or areas
to put up their ads on that site. In the most rudimentary form, that
really is the partnership. You are the host to Google's advertising
clients (from AdWords). A visitor on your site triggering any of those
AdSense Ads present on your Website will generate an income in form of
commission to you. The money you make per click depends on what Google
charges the client, and that is determined by many factors, since the
whole Google Ad concept on the net is based on an bidding/keyword
system.
The excitement most new comers on the web feel with the
AdSense concept is "Wow, so easy to make money. My friends were right I
could be rich by just having AdSense ads on my site. All I have to do
is get a website." That my dear readers is where the downfall is. The
whole AdSense concept has failed them, and they have misunderstood the
principle behind the campaign. In brief AdSense works if YOU work, not
the other way around. One has to understand that Google is in business
to make money, and it makes it's revenue stream indirectly from search
users like you and I. Google's whole philosophy is to provide it's
search users (not your website) the best result from their search query
to their searching customer. They are adamant in displaying the BEST
search result to their client.
AdSense may be free to sign up
for, but Google does not just dish out money because you are hosting
their ads. On the contrary it analysis each site and places ads
relative to the subject on the site. For instance, if your site was all
about baseball, then it would have ads related to that subject, perhaps
an ad of a company selling Baseball Cards, or Hats etc. They certainly
would not have an ad for Mountain Climbing.
If it finds that your
website does not fit their specific criteria for AdSense ads they will
not place any on your site, basically you will not qualify. So it is
important to have a well setup site with quality content, not quantity.
I have seen sites, which to most look pleasant to look at and seem
interesting, but have been rejected by Google due to poor site content.
Once
you have built up good content and qualify for AdSense, you have to
continue to impress Google with new relative and interesting
information on your site. All this though is not enough to generate
income from your site. You have great content, AdSense ads are placed
on the site, now you must have traffic. Without visitors you have no
chance of making any money. The idea is to move up the ladder of search
queries and get displayed as high as you can. It now becomes a viscous
cycle, the more people visit your site, the more you get displayed on
search queries, and of course the more visitors you get. With an
increase in traffic, it is then natural that some of your visitors will
click on the ads which means money in your pocket. A piece of advice
here, just because you have great content does not mean you are done,
you have to make your site SEO proof. More on this some other time. A
warning: Do Not Click or Promote /Entice other to Click on Ads on your
Website. You can be banned by Google for such actions.
In
conclusion, yes you can make money on the net and with AdSense, but you
have to set it up just right, and be prepared to constantly work on
your site, improving it not only with content but with the right
keywords and of course it must be pleasant to the eye and smooth to
navigate. My advice to all who wish to climb aboard this ride is, read
lots, understand what it is all about and apply it. Most of all do not
be afraid to try, and at first if you don't succeed, then modify and
try again, and if you fail again, then read some more and try again.
That is what I am doing, constantly trying. I wish both of us good luck
and much success.
Online Profits with Google AdSense
Google as a
way to profit online? Absolutely true! I'm sure by now the majority of
those on the internet have at least heard of Google AdSense, almost as
sure as I am that anyone with a website has tried using AdSense at one
point or another to earn revenue. AdSense is a very easy to use tool
provided by Google that works in conjunction with Google AdWords to
provide relevant ads on your website.
The way this works is
pretty simple. A business pays for advertising on Google, then places
ads to be shown in Google's search results and on other websites. In
turn, Google then places these ads according to their relevancy, into
their search results and on websites that have partnered with Google
through AdSense. Since most of Google advertising is done on a
Pay-Per-Click(PPC) basis, Google gets paid each time someone clicks on
an add. Websites owners that have partnered with Google through AdSense
also receive a portion of Google's profit each time someone clicks an
ad displayed on their website. These transactions can range anywhere
from a few cents to a few dollars depending upon how much a company is
paying for advertising.
There are several "packages" or "systems"
out there that promise to show you how to make thousands of dollars a
month or per week even, just by using Google AdSense. I'm going to go
ahead and break this down for you...even if you did make thousands of
dollars a week (highly unlikely) using only Google AdSense, Google only
sends out checks or direct deposits once per month. Thousands per
month? This is actually a possibility if you have an extremely popular
website. To give a reality check to these "packages" and "systems,"
seriously take a moment and do the math. Just say that you have a blog
that attracts 100 visitors per day, and your average profit per click
is $0.20. If 100 percent of those 100 visitors each click an ad, your
profits would average around $20 per day. This averages out to be
around $600 per month. Still not too bad, but a far cry from thousands
per week.
You don't need some 20 to 50 dollar package to tell you
how to do this...its really simple, and you wont get much more than
this out of any of the packages for sale out there. Go to
https://www.google.com/adsense/login/en_US/ and click on "Sign Up
Now." Follow the instructions, sign up for the account, wait for
approval from Google. Once your AdSense account is approved, follow the
instructions after logging in to get started. Answer a few questions
from Google, tell them how you want ads to be displayed on your page,
submit, and copy your HTML code provided by Google AdSense. Paste the
code into your website. Ads will appear on your site, people click on
the ads, you get paid. Its as simple as that.
Keep in mind that
this is just a very brief overview of the "how-to," but if you have
questions or need to find information about performance and
optimization of the ads, refer to Google's AdSense help forums and the
training material provided by Google. DO NOT waste your time and
hard-earned money with any of the so-called proven "systems" as you
will find that all the information, training, and advice is free and
available to the public.
Your AdSense Statistics - How To Understand and Calculate Them
Ok
- so you've got a great content web site and you've decided to monetize
it with Google AdSense. You place the AdSense Code on your web site and
immediately start getting clicks.
Soon after, you decide to visit
your account to see just how much money you've made. You get there to
view your reports and then - Bamm! It hits you. Just what the heck do
all those numbers mean anyway?
Well, worry not my fellow net entrepreneurs. Below is a quick breakdown of those numbers and what they mean in layman's terms.
Page Impressions
Your
Page Impressions are simply the number of times your web pages are
viewed. Of course, this number only refers to those pages that contain
your code for AdSense.
Think of one impression as a display -
every single time your web pages are displayed, your impressions go up.
It's the same thing. In terms of money, the more impressions or
displays you get, the higher the chance you have of making more money.
Clicks
This
is the actual number of times that your ads are clicked upon. Thus,
each time a visitor to your site clicks on one of your ads, it is
recorded as a Click.
Every Page Impression you receive is an
opportunity for one of your ads to get clicked. In terms of money, the
more Clicks you get - the more money you can make with AdSense.
Page CTR
Your
Page CTR refers to your web page's Click Through Rate. Your Page's CTR,
or Click Through Rate, is the ratio of the number of Clicks you receive
versus the number of your Page Impressions. The number is expressed in
a percentage and is calculated by taking your Page Impressions and
dividing them by your Clicks (# of Clicks / # of Page Impressions).
For
example, if you have 2000 Page Impressions and received 400 Clicks,
your Page CTR would be 20%. Now for you math wizards out there; once
you have your CTR, you can pretty much figure out your Impressions and
Clicks by using some simple mathematics.
Thus, you can figure out
your Page Impressions by taking the number of Clicks and dividing it
over your CTR (i.e.: # Clicks / CTR%). You can figure out your number
of Clicks by taking your Page Impressions and multiplying it by your
CTR (i.e.: # Impressions x CTR%).
Ok, moving on...
Page eCPM
This is where things start getting interesting.
Your
Page eCPM refers to your Effective (the "e") Cost Per Thousand
Impressions (the "CPM"). Yes, I know. "CPM" is not quite an accurate
English acronym for "Cost Per Thousand Impressions". The reason is
because the acronym uses the Latin for "Thousand"; i.e.: "MIL".
Anyway,
Google defines your eCPM for AdSense as "...a useful way to compare
revenue across different channels and advertising programs". I won't
stray from that definition, however, there might be a better way for
you to understand this number. Let me put it to you this way:
basically, by the time you reach 1000 Page Impressions, you would have
earned the amount stated in the eCPM. Got it?
You calculate the
eCPM by taking your earnings and dividing it by the number of Page
Impressions you receive in Thousands (i.e.: $Earnings / (Page
Impressions / 1000))
To get a good understanding of your eCPM, allow me to illustrate how it's calculated.
Let's
say you earned $250 and got 15,000 Page Impressions. Taking the 15,000
and dividing that by 1000 you get 15. Now, taking your $250 in earnings
and dividing that by 15 you get $16.67. Thus, your eCPM is $16.67.
Now,
remember earlier that I said that by the time you got 1000 Page
Impressions you'd earn the amount in your eCPM. Well, if you do a
little math, you'd see that for every 1000 impressions you received,
you earned the amount in your eCPM ($16.67 x 15 = $250.05).
Earnings
Of
all the numbers you'll see in your AdSense account, this by far, is the
most fun and easiest to understand. Your Earnings are just that: what
you've earned with AdSense. It's how much money you get to put in your
pocket. Now, doesn't that sound nice?
But wait. We're not out of the wood just yet.
There is still one more number you need to know about that they don't show in your AdSense account: your Earnings Per Click.
Earnings Per Click
Your
Earnings Per Click or EPC is simply the average amount of money you
make per Click you receive. It's calculated by taking your Earnings and
dividing it by the number of Clicks you get.
For example, if you earn $250 and you received a total of 500 Clicks, then your EPC would be $.50 per Click.
There
you have it folks: a quick and easy to understand guide on Google
AdSense Statistics. And now that you understand them, your next goal
should be to earn more money.
5 Ways To Improve Your AdSense Earnings
AdSense
is not a difficult thing to implement and make work for you and your
web sites. It's just a matter of learning about the program, what you
can and cannot do, finding the best ways to make it work for you and
then doing it.
Here are 5 proven ways on how best to improve your AdSense earnings:
1.
Concentrating on only one or two formats of AdSense ad. The single
format that works the best is the Large Rectangle (336X280). This same
format has the tendency to result in higher CTR, or click-through
rates. Why choose this format out of the many you can use? Through
studies, Google has determined that this one format gets the most
clicks out of all the others. Who are we to argue with Google? ;)
2.
Create a custom palette for your ads. You want to blend you ads into
your site so they don't stand out like a sore thumb. The best palette
choice is a white or matching background, no border, and blue links.
Although you don't want them to stand out above the rest of your page
content, you do want to make them look like clickable links. Web
surfers all attribute the color blue with links.
3. Place your
AdSense blocks at the top and bottom of your pages. AdSense placed
"above the fold" (a newspaper term meaning the things you see before
unfolding the newspaper) is the #1 place where you will see good CTR
results. Placing a link block at the bottom gives your visitors a place
to go when they reach the bottom on the page. People also seem to
relate these to navigation links. For whatever reason, it works well.
4.
Use the Competitive Ad Filter. Using this allows you to filter out
objectionable, competitive and Made For AdSense sites. This tends to
increase your profits by weeding out the gunk.
5. Try to automate
the insertion of your AdSense code into your web pages using SSI (or
Server Side Includes). Ask your web administrator if your server
supports SSI or not. How do you do it? Simply save your AdSense code in
a text file, saving it as "AdSense.txt", and upload it to the root
directory of your web server. Then using SSI, call the code onto other
pages. This tip is a real time saver, especially for those who are
using automatic page generators to generate pages on their website.
Just make sure not to change any of the AdSense code yourself. That is
against the Terms of Service and can get your account suspended or
banned.
These few tips have been used by the top Internet
marketers to make hundreds and thousands of dollars for themselves from
AdSense. It's important to know that the ads generated will follow the
content of your pages. Keep each page on a single subject for the best
results.
Tips given by those who are successful with AdSense tend
to follow this guild line. Some vary to certain degrees. It's vital to
set up channels for your AdSense blocks and test, test, test. Keep what
works, throw out what doesn't. Finding the right balance is what will
send your CTR through the roof and will allow AdSense to be a solid
income generator for you.
