Hiking is a great way to get some exercise and commune with nature. One of the few things I don't like about hiking is snakes. Some trails are very overgrown and I just know a creepy crawly is going to sneak out from under a bush and get me at any time!
This past weekend we hiked on the Odum Scout Trail here in Alabama. It has been the most overgrown trail we've done since living here. There were places on this hiking trail where you couldn't even see the trail until right on top of it. The brush and grass was that high and wild.
We have noticed a difference in the trails here and the ones in Georgia where we are originally from. I don't know if they don't have as many people helping keep the trails clean and passable or what. We do our part by picking up any trash we see on the trails and moving big logs and such out of the way. I guess overgrown trails just go with the territory when hiking.
Even though the trail was very overgrown and not always easily passable, we still had a good time. There is a very pretty waterfall on the trail that was worth the climb up rocks and three flights of stairs we had to do to see it. Although rocks are just another place I have to worry about snakes!
